Regardless the genre, an actor's character presentation can be muted or highlighted by the clothes and makeup worn. A black box production may do just as well with street clothes as a mainstage with full gowns and faces.
The art of costume and makeup design requires a spark of direction, diligent research and inventive execution - a process that can be demanding yet fulfilling when the lights go on and actors take the stage. An exquisite costume will support, translate and inspire a character for both actors and audience.
